Is December 21, 2012 doomsday or the beginning of a new age?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The web is inundated with 2012 doomsday predictions, which cite everything from the bible to the Mayan calendar to Nostradamus as well as everything in between.  There’s even a movie entitled 2012 coming out in September showcasing the devastations predicted.

Supposedly, on that fateful date in 2012, the planets in our solar system will all be in alignment with the sun, and the sun will line up with the center of our galaxy, resulting in a pole shift, solar flares, earthquakes, tsunamis, and everything else imaginable.

But there are those who say December 21, 2012 will be the real beginning of a new age of peace.

Both versions are compelling to me and I’ve decided to include them in my next Matt & Heather thriller, Shaken, a story celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area.

My vision: to foster dialogue between parent and child about reading.

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

While my stories are aimed at young readers, I’ve wirten them so that they might apeal to an adult audiance as well.  I’ve tried to keep them exciting and entertaining for the child in all of us, to be informative in some way, yet sophistaicated enough to hold an adult’s interest.

My purpose is to not only have the child read but the parent/grandparent as well and then engage in conversation about the plot, characters, backdrop, what might happen next, etc. - in other words, to do what a book club does when a book is selected to be read simultaniously by its members with a disscussion period to follow.

I hope this idea apeals to you.

Enjoy!
